“Let my soul be at rest again, for the Lord has been good to me.” Psalm 116:7

Advent is here and perhaps you are begining to panic as you look ahead to a busy December and not seeing quiet and rest on your calendar. Christmas is a special time of year for us to contemplate the arrival of the Prince of Peace, Jesus Christ, the Savior who has come to bring rest to our soul and restoration to a broken world. Yet we find ourselves with so much on our to do list and activities crammed into the calendar that still and quiet is more of a Christmas fantasy than a Christmas reality.

“Let’s go off by ourselves to a quiet place and rest a while.” Mark 6:31

This scripture is an invitation Jesus gave to His disciples, but is also a present day invitation for you and I. Rest, quiet, and contemplation are found in a place that is away from the hustle and bustle of life and the to do lists. It requires us to find a time each day when we can step away from our roles and responsibilities and to eagerly spend time with the Prince of Peace. So as we enter this Advent season, I challenge you (and myself) to plan those routine and rythmic moments where we can enter into the still and quiet of Christmas.

“Peace I leave with you; My peace I give you. ” John 14:27

A joyous Advent season to you!

PS: Consider writing down your thoughts as you journey through Advent. It is amazing how God can make words flow from the heart and through the pen.
